Plotting from ADE Explorer (netl err)

Sepide

Hi,

When I run simulation in Maestro view (ADE Explorer), there is netlist error (netl err).

Here is the error:

ERROR(WIA-1175): Cannot plot waveform signals because no waveform data is available for plotting.

One of the possible reasons can be that 'Save' check box for these signals are not selected in the Outputs Setup pane. Ensure that these check boxes are selected before you run the simulation.

I would appreciate it if you could help me.

Moved to the Custom IC Design forum as this has nothing to do with SKILL.

The messages about plotting aren't relevant - that's just because the simulation didn't run and so there was nothing to plot. Information about the netlist failure should be in the log files, but one way to check is to to do Simulation->Netlist->Create and see if errors are reported that way.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Sure, I will ask my question in Custom IC Design Forum.

I tried to create Netlist, but due to the failure in the netlist generation, I couldn't.
I have attached "Job3.log" file  for your information.

It is worth mentioning that its schematic view has been changed. I open its config view, which is read-only and then I do ADE Explorer.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

Simulation design variables differ from those on the cellView,
they have been saved in the file "/tmp/saved-design-variables".
To save future changes, copy variables to cellView before exiting.

    The message is pretty clear:

ERROR (OSSHNL-109): The cellview 'SAR_ADC/SAR_tb/schematic' has been modified since the last extraction. Validate
that the schematic is correct and run Check and Save to correct this error.

Presumably you need to check-and-save the schematic as the error message indicates!

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your reply.

I checked and saved the schematic, but there is no error.

OK, a bit of background. When you edit a schematic, you are editing the graphical representation of the design - adding physical objects like instances, wires, pins, labels etc. The netlisters however need connectivity information, and (historically) that is not fully created at creation time, so the design is not ready to be netlisted. Secondly there are some rule checks (which can be customised) to control what is legal and what is not in the schematic - these need to be run too to determine whether the design is "safe" to be netlisted.

The "check" operation does an extraction of the connectivity in the schematic, plus runs the checks for design integrity at the single schematic level, and when that succeeds, marks the database as having the connectivity up to date. If you just do a "save" without the check (i.e. save rather than check-and-save) then it's still awaiting the check operation and that's exactly what was happening here - the error was that you'd not done the check. I wasn't anticipating actual schematic errors to show up - the message merely indicated that the check-and-save operation hadn't happened.

In ICADVM20.1 the schematic extraction can be incremental - so it will extract the connectivity as interactive changes are made. The checks however still need to be run (they are not yet incremental), so it's still necessary to do the check-and-save to ensure netlistability (the good news is that for big schematics this check-and-save only has to incrementally extract and so should be quicker).

My assumption is that having done a check-and-save, the design should netlist OK when you simulate in ADE (note the cellView you checked is different from the one with the mentioned in the netlisting error - that was SAR_tb rather than SAR_Updated_tb).
