SKILL function to extract information about instances in a layout.

I am trying to find the names of the instances in the layout. The problem statement is to create a script to facilitate migration of design from one technology node to another with ease. My approach is after replacing the routing, I want to change the names of the instances via a drop-down form. I just don't know how to get the names of all the instances used in the original layout. Is there a SKILL function that can help me with that?

Thank you.

    cvId~>instances~>name

where cvId is the id of the cellView you are starting from - e.g. the return of geGetEditCellView(), dbOpenCellViewByType etc.

Thanks, Andrew. Where can I find more information about using the commands and also the kind of information available via the Cellview ID?
