Full Wave EMX Simulation

Hello!

I want to run an EMX simulation on an electrically long transmission line Thus, I need to run it in full wave mode instead of quasistatic. According to this article https://support.cadence.com/apex/ArticleAttachmentPortal?id=a1O3w000009F0kTEAS&pageName=ArticleContent, the port should be defined differentially. I can do this for the input and output. However, I have some neighboring blocks that are electrically short where I'm using ports referenced to the global ground (i.e not differential ports).

My question is whether this is valid. Can I define differential ports in full-wave mode only for the electrically long lines in my design, while using non-referenced ports for short lines nearby? Or do all ports need to be referenced?

    Mensh,

    If two ports are defined as, say, P1:P2 (differential), EMX specifies a voltage source across those terminals (according to EMX miscellaneous features, page 34/147), and if the port is left alone, such as P3, then it is referred to Stack-up Defined zero state (ground plane). I think the necessity of having differential port for a t-line has to with return current that should flow to the other port and not ground plane.

    So, I would think that having radiation button on while single ports for lumped components are referenced to ground plane is valid. hope that helps.
