How to edit layer name, purpose, color etc in Virtuoso IC6.1.7-64b.500.18?

Hi,

I have a very dumb question... I used to be able to do it in oder version of virtuoso, but somehow cannot find the editor in the above version.

What I am trying to do is to import a GDS from a sender without tech file, but the sender does give me a ppt file explaining the name/purpose of each layer & data type. So I need to create a local tech file from the gds and the ppt file. How should I do this?

Right now I can import the gds, the LSW window shows default layer name (e.g. L101) and color/fill style etc. How can I change the default layer name to something more meaningful, like gate/metal1...? And how to save those newly defined name/color/fill to a tech file?

Thanks,

Fireonthesea

On the File->Import->Stream form, there's a section "Generate Technology Information" and you can check the "Enable" checkbox and give a tech file name. It will then generate a technology file with the generated layer names, plus a layer map file. You can then use Tools->Technology File Manager and use the Edit Techfile button to open that file and edit it to start changing layer names and packets associated with each. Having done that, you can then create a library using that tech file.
