How to set idc current value to a node current

Hello,

Is there a way to set the DC current value of the idc current source to a node current? I am using Virtuoso as the simulator. The version of Cadence is IC6.1.8. Thank you.

Best,

Hannah

    Hi Hannah,

First of all, a bit of terminology - nodes don't have current, terminals do (the current obviously needs to flow through something). So in your example above, I assume n1 is a pin of I5?

You can't do it using the syntax you've given. It is possible using idc (an isource in spectre), but the best approach is to use a cccs (current-controlled current source) and then reference the name of a voltage source (or iprobe) that you use to measure the current (you can't reference a sub circuit pin). So put a zero-volt source or iprobe in series with the pin you want to measure the current through and give the name of that.

With idc/isource, you can use "bsource" syntax and use i("probeInst") or i("device:p")  (e.g. the p pin of a resistor). You can't use a pin of a block though - there needs to be an actual device to measure the current though. Using cccs is more efficient though.

    Andrew
