Unable to change reference of library from cdsDefTechLib to actual pdk

You say you "re-referenced" the library to the actual PDK lib - how did you do that? it sounds as if your design library is "attached" to the default technology library - did you use the "Attach" button on the Tools->Technology File Manager form to do this "re-referencing" or did you set up a reference library somehow?

If you go over your library in the library manager and do Right Mouse->Properties (with the library only selected), what does it show for the techLibName property?

Thanks for the reply Andrew. 

When checking the Right Mouse->Properties it shows cdsDefTechLib. So to change this I did a right click on the library name -> Change library reference and there I tried to set the "From Library as cdsDefTechLib" and "To Library as actual pdk library".

The above is not working for me. I had made a backup of the original design which is attached to the pdk technology but this copied backup is somehow pointing to cdsDefTechLib. I am trying to retrieve something from this backup library when I came across this issue. 

Changing library references won't help here; that looks for references to a particular library in the design database in the library - and it's pretty unlikely that you have any references to cdsDefTechLib.

You need to attach the design library to the technology library using the "Attach..." button on the Tools->Technology File Manager in the CIW.
