Spectre: what is the purpose of the "trannoisemethod" parameter?

Hi! I noticed there exist a Spectre parameter for the transient noise called "trannoisemethod", with possible values "default" and "adaptive".I have a few question regarding it:

  • What are the differences between these modes?
  • Does it affect somehow the accuracy vs. simulation time tradeoff?
  • Is the noisefmax parameter taken into account differently between these two modes?

"spectre -h tran" only hints to an "adaptive noise step control", and this parameter doesn't seem to be further discussed in the documentation:

93      trannoisemethod=default
use this option to enable the adaptive noise step control. Possible values are default and adaptive.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Jorge.

P.S. I'm using Spectre sub-version 21.1.0.546.isr13

I asked this question last year in Cadence Support Case 46553334 and got a pretty good response. I'm probably not allowed to post it here, but you can always contact Cadence Support and ask for it (if Andrew does not join this thread).

Thanks Frank. I've been a bit tied up with other stuff (to be honest, this morning I've ended up pulled away from work I need to get done in order to answer questions on the forums...).

Anyway, the answer given to Frank via a case, I can't share here. The reason being is that we have not yet made the option easily available from the transient noise form, because we really would like to get more feedback from customers who want to try it out before making it more widespread and fully documenting it. We believe the technology is good, but it's always best to have proper feedback from enough partners to ensure that there are not any unexpected results.

What we would want is for anyone who is interested in this to contact customer support by creating a case. Broadly speaking, it's useful for situations where the designer is not sure how to set noisefmax and is worried about accuracy problems created by choosing a too small value, or performance problems created by choosing too large a value. By contacting customer support, then we can enlighten you on the details, and let R&D know that you are looking at it. We can then collect feedback on how effective it is to help guide whether it is ready for wider usage. Please reference internal article 20444423 when asking about this as this will tell the AE who they need to inform.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Thanks Frank and Andrew for your replies. I'm trying to create a case, but I seem unable to find the correct "Product" category. Which one should I choose for this?:

The correct Product would be Spectre, which does not seem to appear in your list. The reason might be that your Spectre licenses are hosted on a different server and that you have not entered the corresponding Host ID under "My Support -> My Account & Preferences -> My Profile -> Manage Product Entitlement".

Thanks again Frank, that was indeed the problem; after updating our hostID in my profile I was able to see the other products.
I've filed support case  #46666812 on the original inquiry.

    Cheers,
    Jorge.
