Attaching Hspice model to a newly defined cell view

Hello

I have created a new cellview for a component as shown below but am having difficulty in associating the custom defined model with this cellview. The model is a Hspice subckt so I created a .scs wrapper around this subckt with the first line indicating the simulator language as Hspice.

New cell to which I am trying to attach the model  -

SAPD cell -

Hspice subckt wrapped in .scs file  -

When I generated the netlist using ADE I see the above cell 's instantiation in the schematic is not showing the subckt in the generated netlist and the modelname associated with the netlist instantiation is also incorrect. Instead of the modelname the generated netlist is picking the cell name.

In generated netlist the component is showing up as -

I22 (vtrig vnode vcath) SAPD (should be APD as per subckt definition)

Will be great if anyone can suggest a solution or an alternative way to create a new cell and associate it with the Hspice subckt.

I am using IC618.

thanks

You didn't say where this "hspice subckt wrapped in .scs file" is located. is it a Spectre Text view and called (say) sapdmodel? I notice that your .SUBCKT name doesn't match the cell name - if you store the subckt within a view of the cell, then:

    1. The cell name needs to match (otherwise it won't extract it to determine connectivity)
    2. The pin names need to match the symbol pin names (it needs to be able to figure out the pin order by matching the names).

You can certainly have the model in an external file and include that via Setup->Model Libraries in ADE. In that case however you'd have a stopping view (e.g. the spectre view, being a copy of the symbol view) and update the simulation information in the CDF for the Spectre simulation to specify the component name (which can be different - could be APD) and the order that the terminals are in (using the symbol names).

It is, however, unclear what you've actually tried here.

    Thanks for the reply Andrew,

the scs containing the Hspice subckt is located inside the cell SAPD folder . I have also added this .scs file to the model libraries section of ADE

Does the .scs file name also have to be same as the cell name i.e should it be SAPD.scs ?

I have now changed the subckt name to match the cell name and both are called SAPD now.

    regards

Putting a file inside the cell directory in the library won't mean that any of the tools knows it's there! I'm not sure why you think it would.

You can of course reference that file by using Setup→Model Libraries and then pointing to the file - in which case you'd still need to setup up the CDF as I described above - also outlined in this blog by Tawna: https://community.cadence.com/cadence_blogs_8/b/rf/posts/tip-of-the-week-how-to-simulate-a-subcircuit-netlist-with-spectre-in-ade

    thanks for the reply Andrew,

I have been referencing the scs file containing the Hspice subckt by using Setup→Model Libraries and then pointing to the file.

After that I edited the CDF form taking reference of this article - https://support.cadence.com/apex/ArticleAttachmentPortal?id=a1Od0000000nVGOEA2&pageName=ArticleContent

My forms look at as following -

And yes the view sapdmodel is Spectre Text view having the "hspice subckt" which I also created to see if this method would work for me. I renamed sapdmodel also to SAPD (cell name)

It hasn't been working till now but I will check the link you have shared to see what else am I missing. The symbol pin names match the subckt term order names.

    regards
