Copying a maestro assembler setup

EDIT

Although it isn't clear to me why I can't reference the results from the copied maestro view, it has also become not so relevant as I found more or less answer to my more fundamental question about re-using cells, which is (please correct me if I'm wrong):

- if you want to just copy the "pure" setup, just use file --> save a copy feature from within the Assembler GUI. This, as far as I understood, will copy everything sim related but no results or their DB

- copying the cell from the Lib Manager adds the results DB - I think - if the separate history management feature isn't enabled. This isn't enabled in my setup currently, but is probably worth a shot as it should separate between what's setup (in my view) and what is history (setup).

As far as I'm concerned, we can either close or even delete this post, as I don't think it adds much value to the Forum.

Michele

---- Old post ----

Hi,

I want to start from an existing setup for a new maestro view I plan to use and this time I decided to read the manual and try to do what's suggested in there:

In a nutshell and neglecting the first optional step, I just copied the view using the Library Manager copy routine, keeping the "update instances" tick-box unchecked.

As a result, however, my newly created view *seems* to contain *all* the history saved with the source view... Which is exactly what I wanted to avoid but now I understand is unavoidable, meaning that is the way the copy is setup to work...

The interesting thing however, is that those history items cannot be really seen and they point to non existing directory. Contradicting what's written in the manual (or, at least, what I understand of it):

Note: I do not want to see these results here as the simulation I'm planning is going to be unrelated, however since I saw them appearing in the History tab, I clicked on them to find out that:

1. the "view results" option is greyed-out

2. the "open terminal" operation tries to send me to a non-existing directory within a name_of_my_new_maestro_view/results/maestro

So, it looks to me like I landed in a somewhat hybrid situation.

---

In the manual, it says that to copy the RDB one should tick the "update instances" box...

Since I've read that the behaviour of the copy is also dependent on some environment variables, I'm wondering whether what is happening when I am copying is a result of some problematic setup on my side?

I don't think what I am experiencing is the intended behaviour, is it? I expect that performing the copy from Library Manager as stated in the first method, would lead to a cell that has references to the source history results, which could be viewed in the form they appear in the results pane, but otherwise not accessed as psf data for, say, new plots.

If anybody could shed some light on how to setup the environment properly so that a copy without updating instances gives the intended outcome, I'd be happy to learn Slight smile

Secondly: if I now wanted to get rid of those "phantom" histories in a properly copied setup, could I safely delete them from the history tab of my copied view, or would it cause deletion of the source ones too?

Thirdly, but tightly coupled with my second point: I now understand that "setup" in a maestro view includes the saved histories, which in general it is something I am not interested in carrying over when seeking to reuse a "setup" (in my own view). Is there a way to copy a subset of setup, meaning everything related to simulation but nothing related to results?

Bonus question: what is the rationale behind including histories in a maestro "setup" copy?

Thanks!

Michele

Regarding your third question: I generally use File -> Import... in a new maestro view to achieve this.
