Layout: Edit-in Place -> show full layer palette

I frequently use edit-in-place in the layout editor, with the layer palette set to show only used layers. Is there a way that the 'used' list is set to the layers that are used in the entire current design hierarchy? E.g. if there is metal 5 on the top-level and I descend into a lower level (but in-place, so that I can still see metal 5) the palette does not show it (if 'used' is set and the sub-level does not contain metal 5, of course).

I'm currently using IC23.1-64b.43, but a preferred solution would also work in earlier releases.

    Patrick,

    This has been there for quite a few releases (an ISR of IC616), so should be OK. Over the layer palette (in not over the layer swatches) use Right Mouse to choose Options:

    Then on the options form you can change the Scope of Used Layers to Top to bottom:
