Using VCSV File in Spectre Simulation

Hello all,

I was using a VCSV file as input to my circuit and I never had a problem.

After I went back to run it again after a few weeks now it is giving me an error:

Error found by spectre during initial setup.

ERROR (SFE-3411): For instance `V0', parameter 'vcsvsignalname' is required containing the signal name to use for this vsource from the valid vcvs file

Could the forum experts advise?

Thanks,

Alfonso

    Alfonso,

You must be using SPECTRE 23.1 ISR9 to ISR12 (there may be SPECTRE 24.1 versions affected too - I think it's SPECTRE 24.1 base to 24.1 ISR1). There was a change to support multi-signal VCSV files and this unfortunately broke the single-signal VCSV file support for a while. See:

    • How to resolve SEE-3411 or SFE-3412 error when using vsource PWL VCSV file
    • How to use VCSV file with multiple signals for generating a desired PWL voltage signal in Spectre

This was resolved in SPECTRE 23.1 ISR13 and (I didn't check this, but should be the case) SPECTRE 24.1 ISR2.

As outlined in the second link above, if you are using IC23.1 ISR9 or later, there's a new vpwlfm source in analogLib which allows you to select which signal(s) you want to use from the VCSV file. That should be another way of solving the problem if you're not able to switch the Spectre version to something more recent.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your quick reply as always!
I am not too familiar with the ISR numbers but I used MMSIM23.10.562 before and I switched to MMSIM23.10.802 and that allowed me to run the simulation again.
But in the future if I do encounter it again at least I can use the vpwlfm component. This wil be helpul to others who are not able to switch Spectre versions.

    Thanks,
    Alfonso
