License Checkout Failure (LMF-02087): Virtuoso Schematic Editor XL

One of my colleagues is encountering the license error shown below. Our server has two floating licenses (e.g., license1 and license2). Currently, 111 (Cadence® Design Framework II) and Virtuoso_Layout_Suite_XL are checked out from the license1 server. However, when she attempts to open the schematic view in edit mode, the checkout fails, even though both license1 and license2 servers contain Schematic XL licenses. She is still able to open the schematic in read mode.

Since the layout designs are tracked using Keysight SOS, I am wondering if this error is related to SOS or the license server itself. Notably, I am able to check out the same schematic in my own workspace, and it is working fine for me. Could you help clarify the cause?

ERROR (LMF-02005): License call failed for feature Virtuoso_Schematic_Editor_L, version 23.100 and quantity 1. The license server search path is defined as [REDACTED]. The FLEXnet error message is as follows, FLEXnet ERROR(-5, 0, 0): No such feature exists. Run 'lic_error LMF-02005' for more information..

The schematic design re-open trigger has been invoked before the schematic design open trigger. The re-open could have been initiated by a different internal application trigger. Confirm the design mode once the open command is finished and make the schematic design editable, if required. ddAutoCheckin: Checkin of cellview 'schematic' in Lib "Experiment" skipped because of preferences.

    Hi,

The error message FLEXnet ERROR(-87, 0, 0): Checkout exceeds MAX specified in options file suggests that there is a MAX setting in your license file to limit the number of  licenses (Virtuoso_Schematic_Editor_XL in this case) checked-out by a user or host or group. If you can get the license, it means that they are available on the server but access is apparently being limited by MAX setting. Can you ask your CAD/IT group to investigate this? If it remains unresolved, please contact Cadence customer support.

    Regards,

    Saloni

    Hi Saloni,

Thank you for the clarification regarding the MAX setting.

If she can open the cellview in read mode, shouldn't the license checkout fail for read mode as well? Also, since the server has two floating licenses, if one fails, shouldn't it automatically switch to the other? I want to clarify if my understanding of this process is correct.

Opening schematic in read mode doesn't need a license; it's only required for editing.

You mentioned that you have a server with 2 floating licenses - so that means you have 1 license server with 2 Schematic_XL licenses available to be shared by users. Is that correct? You mentioned 'license1 and license2 servers contain Schematic XL licenses' so it's not clear to me how many license servers you have. It should have been mentioned in the error message 'The license server search path is defined as [REDACTED]'. How many servers do you see in the REDACTED string?

Okay, I was not aware of that.
