Link between VLX (Virtuoso XL schematic) and Virtuoso layout database

When creating layout from VXL, the instances are placed with names that correspond to the instances in the schematic.
When I click on a layout instance, the corresponding schematic instance is highlighted and vise versa.

If the layout instance's names are changed this link still exists, but since I don't have access to it in SKILL I have to rely on the instance names being the same.

Is there any way to access this database that VXL uses to associate a schematic with the corresponding layout?

     Hi Alan,

    I think the answer is 'no'.  I presume that you are referring to the IC5141 version since you used the name VXL rather than VLS-XL.  There is menu access to instance correspondence between the layout instances and schematic devices. If you are using the IC613 or IC614 version know that the binder is different and, in fact, much better - it does not have to rely on names matching. There are also public functions (bnd*) that give you SKILL access to some of the binder functions, and this can be used to modify the correspondence between the layout and schematic instances.  If your question is at the cellview level rather than the instance level, then the function lxSetConnRef() can be used to specify which schematic is associated with a layout (this function exists for IC5141 and IC61x).

    I hope that this answers your question!

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    I'm using sub-version 5.10.41.500.6.134 from the getVersion(t) command so I couldn't find any bnd* functions but lxSetConnRef() and lxGetLXInfo should be enough:

    \i help lxGetLXInfo
    \o
    \o lxGetLXInfo(
    \o { srcView | dstView | workingWinId }
    \o [ cellviewID ]
    \o )
    \o => dbID | winID | nil
    \o
    \o Returns the value of the specified Virtuoso XL internal variable.
    \o For example, you can use this function to get the library, cell,
    \o and view name of the source schematic for a specified layout
    \o cellview.
    \t t

    Thanks Lawrence!
