Hi,

I wan to display a form which will show a variable parameter in the dialog box which is in the dialog text parameter.The code is as follows but it is showing error.

I want to know whether this is correct function i m using or some other function is there to get my requirement.

i=2
hiDisplayAppDBox(

?name        gensym('EM)
?dboxBanner  "ELECROMIGRATION"
?dboxText    "Current limit:sprintf(nil "%L mA/Um" i)"
?dialogType   hicInformationDialog
?dialogStyle 'modal
?buttonLayout 'Close

)

Thanks

    Rojalin,

    Isn't the error fairly obvious? You have the ?dboxText argument as a string with embedded quotes without them being escaped. In fact worse - it has a SKILL function embedded in the string - assuming this was even possible, how would it know where the literal string characters end and the SKILL function starts?

    It should be:

    ?dboxText    sprintf(nil "Current limit:%L mA/Um" i)

    And by the way, you don't really need to use gensym for the ?name argument since the dialog box is modal (and hence you only ever have one displayed at once).

    So ?name 'EMdbox would be sufficient.

    Rojalin,

    Having a newline "\n" in the string will do this.

    sprintf(nil "line 1 %d\nline 2 %d" i j)

    (I'm assuming i and j are integers, just to give an example).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Basic string manipulation - build the string using sprintf() or strcat(). You can use as many strings or variables as you like.

    var=2
    sprintf(nil "Line one references a variable %L\nLine two is fixed" var)

    or

    var=3
    sprintf(nil "Line one references a variable %L\n%s" var "Line two is fixed")

    or

    var=4
    fixedString="Line 2 contents"
    sprintf(nil "Line one references a variable %L\n"%s" var fixedString)

    or countless other possibilities using functions for manipulating strings.

    I suggest you read the SKILL Language User Guide and SKILL Language Reference Manual (in cdnshelp or cdsdoc, or in <ICinstDir>/doc/sklanguser/sklanguser.pdf and <ICinstDir>/doc/sklangref/sklangref.pdf )

    You're going to really struggle writing any program unless you have invested a bit of time understanding the basics of the language. It's not hard - the syntax above is essentially very close to what you'd have to do in C or any other language.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.
