Skill code to assign Connectivity to Metals

 Hi,

I am looking for a skill code with the help of which I can assign connectivity to all the metal and via layers connected to a AP layer. The AP layer has the connectivity information. I am looking for a generic code which asks for input metal layer having the connectivity information. Then it propogates or assigns same net connectivity  to all the other metal and via layers connected with the Net. This will help in getting all metal and via layers and not only AP layer during def out.

Please help me with the code.

Thanks & Regards

You should be able to do this by using Layout XL and then running the extractor in Layout XL to re-extract the connectivity (depending on the version - older versions do this automatically - newer versions don't for performance reasons, unless it's needed).

Please also don't post the same question twice...

     Hi,

Thanks a lot for your response & Sorry for the posting twice.

I do not have schematics and hence can't use the layout-XL features. I have drawn manually the metal connection from the bump to IO pad. Since to generate the def I need to have entire metal connectivity on all the layers, so as of now I manually have to select the metal lines and in the properties tab have to add manually the connectivity information. What I am looking for is some skill code which can assign the connectivity to all the connected metals taking information from one of the metail.

Let me know how I can achieve the same.

    Thanks & Regards

Layout XL can be used even without a schematic. I think it would be worth checking if the extraction is sufficient for your needs. That said, not sure how useful that would be because presumably you'd want the DEF to have connectivity which originated from somewhere - otherwise what are you going to do with it in whatever tool you're reading the DEF into?

Maybe however you can use Layout XL to extract the connectivity and then do a dbMakeNet and dbMergeNet to rename the extracted net to the name you want?

     Hi Andrew,

I am not able to get the connectivity using the virtuoso extractor. Since I am only having metal layers in my design and around 15-20 different nets in the layout, Is there any skill code by which if I assign net name at one metal for all the 20 nets, that code can propogate respective net name to all the connected metals and vias used to connect those metals.

I do not have the schematics for the same, it is just the connectvity module between 2 different I/P's.

    Thanks & Regards

I don't really understand why you can't use the Virtuoso extractor. Writing a shape tracer is possible, but a fair bit of work - and it seems a shame not to use the existing built-in one.

I'd suggest you contact customer support (although we're unlikely to provide shape tracer SKILL for you - but maybe we can work to find out why the virtuoso extractor doesn't work for you).

    Andrew.
