How to access fields inside table

I am having issue in accesing table fields..

Here is how I have created my table:

 Device_Asso_Table = makeTable("DeviceTable" 0)

 Device_Asso_Table[key]=list(inst~>name inst~>cellName inst~>libName count)

Key is nothing but a cell name.

When I print my table, it looks like below

("RPPOLY" ("R1" "RPPOLY" "csrN40" 0))

 Format is ("key"(inst~>name inst~>cellName inst~>libName count))

 Now I want to increment count based on certain conditions. How do I point to the field count?

Any help will be appreciated.

    A couple of approaches:

    key="RPPOLY"
    cadddr(Device_Asso_Table[key]) => 0
    ; increment the field using a descructive list operator
    rplaca(cdddr(Device_Asso_Table[key]) cadddr(Device_Asso_Table[key])+1)

    Or you could use this approach:

    defstruct(MYcellCountData instName cellName libName count)
    Device_Asso_Table=makeTable("Device Table" nil) ; better to use nil here?
    Device_Asso_Table[cellName]=make_MYcellCountData(?instName inst~>name ?cellName inst~>cellName ?libName inst~>libName ?count count)

    then you can do:

    Device_Asso_Table[key]->count=Device_Asso_Table[key]->count+1

    You could use a disembodied property list instead of the structure, but the defstruct is a bit more efficient (and more explicit).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks Andrew.

    I tried defstruct method. I have one issue though. When I print the table using printstruct, value of count is not getting updated.

    below is a code I am using to increment count value.

    foreach(item Device_Asso_Table
          if(Device_Asso_Table[item]==Device_Asso_Table[inst~>cellName]
           then Device_Asso_Table[key]~>count=Device_Asso_Table[item]~>count+1
            ;println(Device_Asso_Table[key]~>count)
               );if
                );foreach

    What I am trying to do is, trying to update count value whenever I find the same key again.

    could you take a look and let me know what's missing in the code?

    That's a bit odd - there's no need to search through all the keys with a foreach to find one that matches - the whole point of an association table is that it will find the entry with the same key. Quite probably the problem with the above code is that you're mixing item and key in the code - and so you're probably not updating the right structure.

    It should be enough to do:

    struct=Device_Asso_Table[inst~>cellName]
    if(struct then
      struct->count=struct->count+1
    else
      Device_Asso_Table[inst~>cellName]=make_whatever(?this ... ?that ... ?count 1)
    )

    No need for loops whatsoever.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    I dint quite understand the if condition.

    if(struct then

    Also I tried to use it but count remains unchanged. Looks like it never passes the if condition.

    It would really help if you showed your entire code - at the very least the defstruct statement, the makeTable statement, and the code you're using to add a new entry in the table or update an existing entry.

    The snippet I gave was based on the assumption that you'd given nil as the second argument to makeTable - that way if array[key] returned nil then it would have to add the entry into the table, but if non-nil, it would be the structure instance ready to be updated.

    But it's really hard to debug without seeing your code.

    Andrew

    Hey the issue is resolved, I was creating a new table everytime I use the command below
    Device_Asso_Table[cellName]=make_MYcellCountData(?instName inst~>name ?cellName inst~>cellName ?libName inst~>libName ?count count)

    Thanks for your help.
