    Hi Charley

It is true that each cell in the library could be a top cell.

The depth of a hierarchy is not stored in the database nor in the library or cell's property bag. This information can change at any time when any cellview in the hierarchy is updated.

To get this information will involve process each cellview in the library and for each cellview travers its instance chain to determine the hierarchical depth of each cellview. Using the pcdb* SKILL API functions can help in reducing the process time as the actual database files do not need to be opened.

    Thanks
