The 'properties' (thickness and color) for the selection box in the Cadence Symbol Editor come form the system layer purpose pair (lpp) 'instance drawing',
which is assigned to the display packet 'red' in the technology file.

If you want to change the thickness and color of them you have to
assign a other display packet to 'instance drawing' lpp in your technology
file. But this changes the color appearance of every shape drawn with the
lpp 'instance drawing' no mater if it is for symbols selection box,
or any other stuff in schematics or layouts.

Or modify the display packet 'red' in the display.drf or your local
display.drf file. But this will chance the appearance of every layer
purpose pair which is assinged to the display packet 'red'.
