Edit in place to specific instance

Is there a function to go to a specific instance with edit in place in layout.

If several instances overlap at the same point, I want to go to a specific cell to edit shapes/vias/pins.

    Paul,

    If you pre-select the instance before doing Edit in Place, it will go into that instance.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    I have  done that, I have had times when there were several shapes that were line on line but in different cells and at different levels in the hierarchy.

    I can use getOverlap to find the shape path, but then I need a way  to do an edit in place to that specific cell.

    Thanks for the quick reply

    Hi Paul,

    So are you saying that this is not just one level of hierarchy - you need to pick a particular path down through the hierarchy (so picking the top level instance may not help)?

    If so, the leEditInPlace() function takes a list describing the hierarchical path down to the instance you want.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks

    Is there a difference between leEditInPlace and geEditInPlace?

    Yes. The interface is different. From a quick glance at the finder/SKILL Quick Reference (as I'm on vacation today and can't look at the full docs) it appears that the ge flavour can only descend one level of hierarchy. Andrew

    I used dbGetTrueOverlaps to get the instance path is this correct method.
    What is the other values/integers the leEditInPlace needs

    leEditInPlace( hiGetCurrentWindow() ((db:12082048 0 0 0) (db:13240512 0 1 2) (db:13933796 0 0 0)) )

    Error message I get
    eipPathDb = ((db:0x2092e99c 0 0 0) (db:0x39e57f3b 0 0 0) (db:0x3094a09c 0 0 0) (db:0x39e5121c 0 0 0) (db:0x33b33a1a 0 0 0))
    *Error* geSetPushVars: Invalid instance - db:0x2092e99c

    Hi Paul,

    isn't it geGetInstHier() or geGetInstHierPath() ?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Hi Andrew,

    I used to get a list for the hierarchical path to a particular shape by clicking on it after invoking leHiEditInPlace() - this allowed me to get an idea of where that shape sits throughout the hierarchy and gave me the ability to select which level I want to descend into from that list. However, I'm not seeing this in my new team's environment. Was this only available in older versions, or is there an option that I need to tweak somewhere?

    I'm using ICADVM18.1-64b.NY_ISR10_SUPPORT.2

    Thanks, Fari

    Hi Fari,

    There's a (currently private) cdsenv variable to control this. I'm not sure why it's still undocumented, so I will ask that when I'm back at work next week.

    Andrew.
