Cadence-Python Interface

Hello:

I would be interested in a Cadence-Python interface similar to the Cadence-MATLAB results interface.

Python has the same features available in MATLAB but is free and open-source.  It is also better for general computing and has a very diverse set of packages available.  In fact I am calling some python packages from within MATLAB and it would be better to have the option for a pure Python solution.

Should I submit a CCR through support?

Regards,

Curtis

Yes. Others have requested this too (not sure if there's a CCR - I didn't check). We have some partial Python interfaces for part of what's needed (e.g. waveform access) but not for the entire infrastructure that the MATLAB interface provides.

    Dear Andrew,

Where can I find these partial Python interfaces for waveform access that you are mentioning? I would very much like to use them.

    Hey hmeyvaer:

Can you submit a request for this feature to Cadence support also? Having multiple requests will help make this a higher priority.

    Regards,

    Curtis

    Dear All,

Any information regarding a Python interface for waveform access would be most welcome.

My present, my flow runs simulations with Ocean, in order to save to my own data set files, and then the post processing is done with Python.  Maybe the Ocean step could be skipped with knowledge of how to use a Python interface?

    Best regards,

    Paul

    Hey Paul:

Can you submit a request for a full Cadence-Python interface to Cadence support also? Having multiple requests will help make this a higher priority.

    Regards,

    Curtis

To answer the various posts/requests in this thread...

The python waveform reader interface is not shipped as part of the Virtuoso release and is effectively an early-access capability that's not formally released as part of the software yet. So any request would have to be via customer support, and given that it's a slightly special case, we'd need to ensure that you have the right licenses to use it, and to provide the kit and associated support.

Note that the interface only takes care of waveform data and doesn't provide the integration with maestro views (e.g the SQL results database that maestro uses for the scalar results etc) that the MATLAB integration does, hence me referring to it as a "partial" solution.

So I may have been a bit premature referring to it here...

    Andrew.
