Convert 45 degree polygon to staircase

Hi, 

I need a script to convert a 45 degree angle polygon to staircase as shown in the image below. I'm asking because I want to draw PTAP guardring along the edge of the polygon. If the shape is diagonal, the fluid guardring shapes are off the grid and creating drc errors. Could someone share the script if you have any already. Or please let me know the command or give me some hint, so I will try to write the script by myself.
