How can I make rodGetObj works on instantiated cell from top level?

Hello,

I have a rod object named "polygon0" which is instantiated in top cell.

cvId = geGetEditCellView()  ; this returns the top level cvId
objId = rodGetObj("polygon0" cvId) ; this returns nil

I do not understand the S_hierarchicalName mention in the user guide.
I tried the cell name, but it does not work.

apologize if this turns out to be a basic question.

    Hi,

    I'am not really sure what you mean with "instantiated" - that term isn't used for rod objects. You instantiate a master cell and in such create an instance of it, that's what instantiating means.
    Or do you place an instance that itself  contains a rod object by the name of "polygon0"? If that is the case you need to use a hierarchical path, for example assume the name of the instance is "I1" then you have to say rodGetObj("I1/polygon0" cv).

    yes, this is what I meant.

    And yes, hierarchical path works. Thank you!

    I am wondering now whether there is a better way of doing this if I instantiate this 100 times.

    well each time you place an instance it has a unique name which you need to use in rodGetObj(..). Assume the instance's OA database object is available in a SKILL variable by the name of inst you then have to go like this:
    (rodGetObj (strcat inst->name "/polygon0") cv)

    regards
