Convert String in Exponent format "280e-09" to a numerical format

Working on an Ocean script.

How do I convert exponential numbers to string. Example  "280e-09" to 280e-09

So that I can use it as an argument for awvPlaceXMarker function.

Regards,

Anchan

    Anchan,

    Here are several ways:

    numstr="280e-09"
    aelNumber(numstr)
    cdfParseFloatString(numstr)
    car(linereadstring(numstr))
    sscanf(numstr "%g" num)

    The one I wouldn't use (you might see it used or suggested elsewhere) is evalstring. The reason being that if the string contains something that is a SKILL function, it will get evaluated and executed as SKILL. Imagine what happens if numstr happened to be "(exit)" ...

    Regards,

    Andrew
