Generate Layout hierarchy, ignoring existing layouts of subcells.

I have written a SKILL script that uses the function lxGenFromSource to generate the layout view. The purpose of the code is to do an area calculation of each device, and I would like to ignore any existing layout views that exists and always generate "new" layouts (which is always done in a scratch library). Is there an environment variable I can set?

Are you referring to layout views in the design hierarchy and not just the top cell layout?

Correct on the quoting (string) question. And yes, I'm referring to the layout views down through the design hierarchy. The top cell is created new in the specified library, it is all the subcells that I want to force to be new instead of instantiating from the original schematic library.

OK, sorry. That wasn't clear. Generate From Source only creates the top level layout cellview.

You can edit the physConfig to 'force descend' on cells/instances. But this will flatten the hierarchy one level.

A better solution for you is probably to us 'Design Planner' within Virtuoso. This is an EXL feature. Please see...

ICADVM20.1 Virtuoso Design Planning and Analysis (cadence.com)

This enables you to create virtual hierarchy for missing or existing instances. Optmising placement from the top level. switching to/from cells or virtual hierachy as required.
