how make Pcell from flattened Pcell with same parameters as earlier was

Dear Group members ,

I need small favor from your expertise, I have Flattened Pcell named nch ( Having lots of parameter).

I can see following cdf parameter even after Flattening Pcell named as nch ,

Present scenario, If I instantiate this cell in my layout view I am seeing following error in CIW

Now  I want to covert it back to Pcell so that I can instantiate in layout view ( So I can change any parameter  ( W, L, Finger etc)

Could you please suggest me how to create Pcell from Flattened Pcell  as above named nch cell ( New Pcell should have all parameter which was earlier has it).

Please post your code or solution. Thanks for your help again !

Best regards,

Yogesh Jaiswal

So, you could redefine the pcell and all it's parameters. There is an interactive UI but this is really only practical for a simple pcell. I do not recommend it.

You can define the pcell again in SKILL. Obviously some knowledge and experience in SKILL programming required.

There is an interactive tool: PCell Designer Generating a Layout Parameterized Cell using PCell Designer - Basic (cadence.com)

But why do the extra work? Why not just reinstate the pcell you used in the first place?

By a "Flattened PCell" do you mean that you have an instance that's been flattened? If so, the CDF parameters on the device from the PDK library aren't really relevant - you've lost that information when you flattened the instance, and you don't have the data to restore it.

Or do you mean that you have somehow messed with the device in the PDK and you can't instantiate it any more as a PCell? (how did you do that?). If so, reinstalling the PDK would make sense.

Your question isn't really very clear right now - I'm not sure what you're actually asking!

Thanks  Andrew for giving insight, This Tech library was in CDB  format ,

Step1. I have converted into OA format.

Step2.  When I am instantiating in my layout view as Pcell I am getting following error

Please suggest your views how to over come ?

    Cheers,

    Yogesh

    Yogesh,

In the original PDK, the technology library tsmc35mm would have contained a libInit.il file which loaded some SKILL and context files (usually positioned within the library or in a directory relative to the library). You should ensure that your converted tsmc35mm library has the libInit.il and all the files needed to be loaded are in the same relative positions.

What's going on here is that it can't find the SKILL functions used either for the callbacks or the pcell code - probably because you've not set that up properly.

If you get stuck, please contact customer support; an application engineer should be able to help you with this (please reference this post when you submit a support case).

Hello , I would like to ask you if there are any introductory learning materials of pcell designer. I hope you can give me some advice, which will be very helpful to me.

I reviewed your shared file: Generating a Layout Parameterized Cell using PCell Designer - Basic (cadence.com).that's very good,Do you have any other introductory materials.Thank you very much for the help of senior engineers like you

There's also a video channel - this is an introductory short demo, but there are other videos describing various topics (more videos are planned too): Creating a Simple MOSFET with PCell Designer

This article should help too: Introduction to PCell Designer - Licensing, Setup, General Flow, PCD environment, and commands.

For more information though (we have some training material too), please contact your account team or customer support.

    Regards,

    Andrew
