floorplan without initial core size

 Hello all,

I am wondering if it is possible to floorplan without specifying core size.

if the size of the chip be specified at the begining of the P&R, then a flow, to reach the minimum area, may be based on trial and error for diffrenet core sizes ( or core utilizations). Is this true? Can a tool like Encounter P&R with the minimum possible area?

Thanks,

Ali

    Hi Ali,

If a core size isn't specified, usually a default number is used at the beginning, for example 70% utilization. Encounter also has beta functionality for an automated way of arriving at a minimal sized floorplan.

    regards,

    wt

     Thank you for your reply,

Could you please explain a bit more the beta functionality and if there is any command associated?

    thanks
