dbgAutoCellFunction and RC scale factors

 Dear All,

I have two questions regarding Encounter v6.2:

1) I read somewhere that before starting to work on a design in Encounter I should do: set dbgAutoCellFunction 1

Does anyone know why is that? What does this function do?

2) Does anyone know where to find or how to calculate the Capacitance/Resistance Scale Factors that are needed for RC extraction? These are filled in the Avanced> RC Extraction tab of Design Import window.

    Hi Alex,

    For 1: I think this was an old or beta way to enable the footprintless flow (meaning, you don't have to specify the buffer/inverter/delay cell footprints - FE can automatically tell what these cells are). In 6.2, the way to do this is: set dbgGPSAutoCellFunction 1. This is covered in the Timing Optimization chapter of the User Guide, under the section "Enabling the Footprintless Flow".

    For 2: Look at the RC Extraction chapter in the User Guide. There is a section called "Correlating SPEF Files Using the Ostrich Utility". This is what you need to do to get the RC scale factors. Basically, you give Ostrich an FE SPEF and a signoff SPEF, and it calculates the factors for you.
