Cell name map file from encounter

I am saving a gds file from Encounter of a placed and routed cell, and I want to stream that gds file into layout xl. The problem I am running into is that the names don't carry back over from Encounter so connectivity in XL doesn't match up with the correct names. Encounter seems to have them named correctly on the few that I check, but the convertion seems to drop them. Is there a way to do this? Can encounter save a cell name mapping file?

Export the design as a DEF file from Encounter and then import into icfb. All of the instances  and nets retain their names if you use DEF.

I am really new to using encounter so bear with me. I tried DEF, and I get all the wires etc but it says it can't find the via12 and all of the std cells. When its finished loading I don't even get the squares for an empty referance. The std cells are all in a referance library. How can I tell it to pull from the referance library. I had the std cells loaded in encounter using LEF.

    Thanks for your help

In the Def In form in icfb, did you specify the standard cell library in the "Use Ref. Library Names" field? Do the standard cells in the library have an abstract view? The DEF import uses the abstract views as the reference view, not the layout view. If no abstract views exist, this may be the problem with it not importing the cells.

As for the via12, make sure that the techLib of the library that you are importing the design into points to a library whose techfile contains definitions of the vias that are defined in the LEF file that was used for Encounter. If your techlib does not contain these via definitions, then whoever provided your techfiles needs to make sure that the vias from the LEF are added to the techlib.

Ok so that is the problem. There is no abstract view. So there is no way to pull the names using GDS?

    Thanks again!
