Placing macros in master/clone partitions

Hello everyone, I'm doing top-down floor-planning that includes two identical instances of a module defined as master & clone partitions. After defining these partitions, I'm running planDesign to place all the macros (they include macros within the partitions, as well as at the top-level). I'm seeing different macro placements in the master and the clone currently, which defeats the whole purpose of cloning. I'm only specifying cell-orientation for the macros in the masterPlan template file, when running planDesign. Is there a way to let planDesign (or multiPlanDesign) know that the macro placements need to be identical within the two partitions? I checked the template but there didn't seem to be a way to specify this explicitly. There doesn't seem to be any related switches in the setPlanDesignMode command either. Regards, --rtl2gds
  • For anyone interested, I found the answer to this one. clonePlace is the command that replicates the macro placements from the master into the clone(s)

    When you partition, the instance defined as the master is the one that will get output to the partition directory, and the placements inside the other clones will be thrown out. But I can see how you may want the placements to be identical for more analysis at the top-level before you partition.
