Encounter crashes

 Hi,

I'm new to Encounter and I'm trying to get familiar with it. Encounter crashes when I try to use Wroute (global and final routing). Here is the output:

I am glad that you are routing well with NanoRoute now.  I am happy to answer your questions.

I am confident that your wroute segv was not caused by the WARNING messages.  These are standard messages under those conditions.  All it is saying is that those types of nets are not present.  Lets address the issues that it shows, though.

Power nets are introduced into a design in encounter through the design import form.  If you look in the options tab that its labeled PWR/GND, you can add those global nets.  The global nets can then be connected using the globalNetConnect command or GUI forms, which is what I would recommend for a new user.  Then you can create rings and/or stripes with those global nets before placement and route.

As for the clock nets, you would define clock nets by inserting a clock tree, which is done after placement and before route.  For your design, you may or may not need a clock tree.

As for the IO, if your netlist has IO cells in it, encounter will place those cells in a ring around the open area of the design.  If you do not have IO cells, then it will just place the ports on the perimeter.  It will place these at 0,0 at design import, and then move them as necessary when you place the design.  If you want then in a specific locations, then you should use the IO file.

    Hope this helps,

    Brad
