workaround for encounter gui mouse behavior issue

Over the past few versions of encounter (7.x, 8.x, not sure about 9.x), I have had an issue arise that I have not been able to reproduce consistently, but has constantly bugged me. Fortunately, I came across a workaround and thought I'd share in case anyone else has seen it.

The issue is that when I have a design open, the gui mouse behavior can change to a different state. When it gets in this state, the right mouse button doesn't zoom in. Instead it grabs the screen and pans. Also in this altered state, the select/deselect behavior changes and the ruler function does not work. This is only a few of the changes. Basically, it makes it very difficult to work in encounter. Usually it happens with a large design, so re-loading is undesirable.

When this happens, the fix is to select multiple objects while holding down the Shift key. This brings the gui behavior back to normal.

    Thanks a lot for sharing this workaround.  I'm sure it's useful to others who might be experiencing this problem.

    I can't say that I've ever run across this myself.  If you're ever able to pin down what triggers the mouse to get into the quirky state please let us know so I can try to reproduce it and get the software repaired so this doesn't happen any more.

    No problem. This is a peculiar problem that I have been trying to reliably
    reproduce for a while, but no luck. If I do figure it out, I'll let you know.

    FYI, the env I am running in is linux. I use a full-screen kde vnc session
    launched from a gnome gui session.

  • I've seen this behavior as well. And also have not been able to reliably recreate it. Also Linux and KDE.
