an GDS import issue of Virtuoso

 Hi all,

I use Encounter to export a gds and then stream the gds into Virtuoso. After I imported encounter generated gds into Virtuoso, I found beside the top cell, there are about one hundred cells generated, they are called top_VIAxx (xx is a numeral). Actually I found that all top_VIAxx cells shown in virtuoso were those via cells manually added in encounter after automic PnR for correcting some drc errors. I am wondering why these via cells were not merged into the top cell when imported into virtuoso?

Can anyone give me a help?

Thanks in advanced

I think vias are considered as instances in Virtuoso. If your design has a via that is nor already defined in your Virtuoso tech library, it will be created as a cell along with your top cell when you stream in. This is normal.
