set_dont_use/setDontUse

Tool Version: Encounter 8.1.

On my design, I am using set_dont_use for setting and unsetting the dont use property on lib cells.

set_dont_use [get_lib_cells *] true

set_dont_use [get_lib_cells <xyz list>] false

This doesn't seem to have any effect on the "optDesign -hold", though the "get_property [get_lib_cell <xyz>] is_dont_use" reports correctly.

Whereas,

setDontUse [get_lib_cells <xyz_list>] false

is understood correctly by the "optDesign" command. But this command doesn't change the "is_dont_use" property on the lib cell.

Is this difference in the commands expected? Also, is there a way to report the dont_use property set using setDontUse command?

Sorry you're having trouble with this issue.  I see the same behavior here on my end (specifically in terms of setDontUse settings not being accurately reflected by get_property is_dont_use) and there is an existing bug report open for this issue.  Let me check with our developers on a timeline for when this is going to be repaired.

In the mean time, I believe setDontUse/reportDontUse is the preferred way of managing these markings for optimization purposes.

    Hope this helps,
    Bob
