Restricting metals from Nanoroute

archive
archive over 17 years ago

My design is performance intensive, but the lowest level of metal is highly resistive so I want to avoid using it as much as possible. How can I instruct nanoroute from within Encounter to avoid a level of metal as much as possible? Would be nice to say "Any net switching more than 1 GHz should not have any Mx".. Thus letting the resistive metal be used for the slower testclocks and testsignals in the design. Hope someone can help! Thanks!

Have you tried this nanoroute option:

    ********************
    -routeBottomRoutingLayer layerNumber

Specifies the lowest layer the NanoRoute router uses for global and detailed routing.

If the design has pins below the layer specified by this parameter, and if the tracks for the in-between layers are aligned to allow stacked vias to be dropped directly on top of the pins, the router uses stacked vias. However, if the tracks are not aligned, the router adds a short piece of wire before dropping a via to go to the next layer.
    Default: 0
    ****************
It will apply to your whole design, not just your high-speed nets, but it may serve the purpose as long as you don't rely on a lot of the lower level metal for other routes.
