Hi, I have a placed design, I save placement info of it using savePlace. For an academic project ( I am a student) I need the cell co-ordinates or location. I am unable to do so from my placement .place file, The placement file I am getting looks something like this, Can anyone pls explain, how can I calculate the location of the block(what are its cor-dinates of corners maybe..) Thanks Amit _________________________________________________________________________ ################################################### # # # Cadence Design Systems, Inc. # # FirstEncounter Placement file # # # ################################################### # Created by First Encounter v08.10-s372_1 on Wed Jan 12 21:02:07 2011 version 5 fileType stdCellPlacement designName s344 dbunit 2000 symbolTable Signature: 0; Symbols: 1; Instances: 90; Cells: 138 0 U1 32 0 U2 113 0 U3 113 0 U4 113 ... 0 s344 1 XOR2_X2 2 XOR2_X1 3 XNOR2_X2 4 XNOR2_X1 5 TLAT_X1 6 TINV_X1 ........................ instLoc 0 ( 89680 91280 2 1 0 ) 1 ( 80180 96880 2 1 0 ) 2 ( 80180 102480 2 1 0 ) 3 ( 81700 99680 6 1 0 ) 4 ( 99180 91280 4 1 0 ) 5 ( 94620 94080 6 1 0 ) 6 ( 94620 99680 0 1 0 ) ...........

It would probably be easier if you wrote out a DEF file.

     defOut myDesign.def

Then in the DEF file, look for the COMPONENTS section. This will have each placed cell or block along with its coordinates and orientation. The coordinates will be in DB units, so check what your units are (from the tech LEF: usually 1000 or 2000) and divide the DEF coords by that to get microns.

     Hope that helps,
