Instance Padding on one side of instance

Hi Everyone,

I want to know how to specify instance padding on a single side of an instance, and what are the different methods to specify instance padding? And what are the steps to do after specifying padding. Suppose if i want to add padding to an instance on already  placed design. Does Refine placement legalize the padding??

Thanks in advance,

Vishwas

specifyInstPad adds padding to the right side of the cell (though if the cell is flipped on the Y-axis, it will appear to be on the left). Usually, padding is added at the beginning of the flow, and you don't have to do anything else unless you want to remove the padding later, such as for hold fixing. If the design is already placed and you add the padding, I believe refinePlace will legalize the placement taking the padding into account.

    Hi Kari,

Thanks for the reply..  I have one more question :

Am using to get_cells to collect all the cells in to a collection but if i try to add these cells in to a group  no cells were included using foreach_in_collection.

If i use "get_attribute $Cell full_name " for each cell in the loop and then i need to add to group,if i do like this it works but it takes more time since it has to add each instance to group.

Does addInstToInstGroup works with get_cells collection?? If am not clear pls let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but it sounds like something that I would use dbGet for. Can you give some more details about what you want to accomplish?

    Hi Kari,

I was trying to add a list of cells to a group. I got the list of cells from get_cells . I tried to use this cells to a group using foreach_in_collection but no cells were included . Hence i used get_attribute command to get attribute fullname and then i added each cell to group. if i use get_cells list to add cells to group it wont add any cells. If this is not clear please let me know. I will post that script asap. Thanks Kari.
