Antenna Calculation for Standard Cells

Halo, I am using Cadence Abstract Generator to create abstract cells for a digital standard cell library. The Abstract Generator user guide states that Antenna Calculations are switched off by default for standard cells. Does this mean that antenna calculations are unnecessary for standard cells? I am confused by this. Thank you!

    Hello,

This calculation should be done: it will compute the  transistor gate area for the Inputs and the diffusion (diode) area for the outputs.

Then this information can be used by the P&R tool  to fix antenna violation which will occur depending  on the length/metal level of the routed net (to make it simple). The outputs  (due to the diode) are protected.

If these violations are not fixed automatically by the router, they will  flag later in the flow, during the Antenna/DRC check. And they might be hundred and you certainly do not want to fix them by hand !

So better to have the gate area/ diffusion area in the LEF.

    Patrice
