third party global routing

Hi,

I want to do the global routing of my design with another tool. Is it possible to save the design after the placement? and then do my global routing in another tool and after that provide the data required for cadence to do detailed routing.

 Thanks

Can I use the pdefout to get the floorplanning and placement information and then do global routing by my tool. Finally, use pdefin to do detail routing. Is it a right flow?

     Hi Yazdan,

I don't know what kind of output your 3rd-party tool can provide to describe the global routing (you mention DEF, but what does it really look like?), but global routing (at least in the Cadence tool sense) isn't real routing, like a detail route. I don't think there is a way to represent it in DEF.

Can I ask why you don't want to have EDi do the global and detail route together? Can you post a bit of what the DEF global routing looks like from your other tool?

I don't think this flow is possible, but it would help to know more about what you're trying to achieve.

     Hi Kari,

Thanks for your response. Actually, I want to evaluate my global routing algorithm against various available algorithms. I didn't implement any detailed routing algorithm so I still need some tools to do that for me. The thing that I am looking for is I want to put my global routing algorithm into the flow of cadence. For example If you are familiar with ISPD'08 routing benchmarks (http://archive.sigda.org/ispd2008/contests/ispd08rc.html), I am looking for similar format (e.g. the global routing grid size, bin size, global location of the pins). I put this link to give you the idea what I am looking for, but It is possible for us to support any other formats that cadence can provide us.

    Thanks

I'm sorry, but I don't know of any way to do this.
