difficult encounter

 Dear friends

I am new to cadence forums and look forward to an enlightening and informative future with this virtual community.\

I am sorry some of my questions would be naieve but we are all here to learrn, arent we?

My specific problem with encounter is that I have designed a simple counter and am going through the total flow of encounter tool I have synthesized my counter placed the pads , done the floor planning , now I am on to CTS. The problem I am having is that when I synthesize the clock tree it gives me the following errors.

ENCCK 3179

ENCCK 3184

namely the eroors areNo sync pin in Clock clk

the status of clock is not changed.

clock clk does not have a sync pin.

I have gone and edited the clock.ctstch file and set the options as setIoPinasSync and setDPinasSync to "YES" but to no avail. there is no change, the tool tries to synthesize the clock tree and after hitting the following errors it deletes the clock tree and ends with an error.

I have scared the manual and could not get any lead.

Please can someone help.

Secondly In cadence user manual isnt there any option where we just put the warning or error number and it gives you the reason for it.

Thanks in advance

Sardar.

     Hello Sardar,

    >>  Secondly In cadence user manual isnt there any option where we just put the warning or error number and it gives you the reason for it.

If you want to search for known solutions go to http://support.cadence.com. This will allow you to search documentation, solutions, blogs, app notes, etc.

For example, if I search for "ENCCK-3179" the following solution is returned:

    http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:ViewSolution;solutionNumber=11602586

Are the clock pins defined with "clock : true;" in the timing library?

    Regards,

    - Brian

Brian's method is the most comprehensive. Sometimes you can get more info with "man <msg-id>". But this is still a work in progress, and not all the warning/error messages have info filled out yet.
