How to select routing layer pitch?

For the stdcell library design, how do I select the proper routing layer pitches so that I could get a compact (less area) block when I use this stdcell library for a block?

I have four routing layers with line-to-via distances 0.49, 0.67, 0.58, and 0.80 correspondingly for layers m1, m2, m3 and m4.

Since m1&m3 will run along x direction, I probably need to pick 0.58 (the larger of 0.49 for m1 and 0.58 for m3) as the pitch for x direction layers m1&m3.  In the same consideration, I need to pick 0.80 as the pitch for y direction layers m2&m4. Is this a right decision?
