Not able to select the objects through pointers

Hi ,

Recently, I got a case where i need to select all Via08. i wanna go through dbGet for it.

Here is what i tried,

dbGet top.nets.sVias.via.name VIAGEN89_1  gives me all VIAGEN89_1 list. I used -p optiuon to get the db pointers .

dbGet top.nets.sVias.via.name VIAGEN89_1 -p is giving me db Pointers but all the pointers are looking same, that means

dbGet -u top.nets.sVias.via.name VIAGEN89_1 is giving one pointer.

Why is it giving like this ? and dbSelectObj [dbGet top.nets.sVias.via.name VIAGEN89_1 -p] is not selecting the via, why?

I tried for the insts , though it is giving the pointers correct but not selecting with dbSelectObj.

can some one help me. I wanna learn more about the dbGet.

Thanks,

sunil.

    Hi Sunil,

It looks like you're on the right track, but I think you need to do a "-p2" instead of "-p" because you want the pointer to the via instantiation rather than the via master.

Here's a blog post on selecting by pointer:
    /blogs/di/archive/2009/12/16/selecting-pointers-with-dbget-and-dbselectobj.aspx

    Some useful dbGet one-liners:
    /blogs/di/archive/2009/08/12/useful-dbget-one-liners.aspx

And here's a presentation I use to get users started with dbGet (Cadence.com login required):

    Hope this helps,
    Bob
