placing welltap between every two cells

Hello,

does anybody know how to place extra cell between any two cells while placing the design in Encounter. Let's say I have a welltap cell and I need to place it between every two cells in whole design.

Thank you in advance

Jiri

    Hi JISO,

If you want to place a well tap between 2 cells you can do but using of well taps is for avoiding the latch-up problem.

so, for a particular design how many tap cells should be used and at what locations those taps should be located this will be estimated before placement of a design.

so, if you want to place more taps than required leads to increasing the design density its again problem if the design density increeses.

    Hi Ganga,

Thank you for your contribution to this topic. I know all the consequences of this decision. I am not the one who desided to go there but there is problem with latch-up and goal of this is to have tap inserted between all the cells. Ofcourse this will enlarge the design.

I am still wondering how this should be done in encounter.

Hi, Well taps could be placed in any design in check-board fashion, which mean that the cells which tap the standard cells will be having a particular limit (distance) and this number can be provided by the senior engineer. The default rule is that the min distance should be 60 micron. So, if we place the design in checker- board manner we could reduce the limit to 29 micron to obtain pessimism.
