Doubt regarding import gds in encounter

selvam27 over 12 years ago

 Is there any option to import standard cell gds in encounter? I tried to include the standard cell gds in .conf file as follows.

 set rda_Input(ui_gds_file) "/export/projects/pnr_calibration/inputs/tcbn40lpbwp.gds"

But it shows error like,

Loading GDS File ./inputs/tcbn40lpbwp.gds
**ERROR: (ENCSYT-16029):    Failed to load gds file ./inputs/tcbn40lpbwp.gds
.

If anybody knows how to resolve this problem, kindly reply me. Thanks in advance.

    Encounter no longer reads in GDS directly. You need to convert the LEF and GDS to OpenAccess (OA) and then read in the OA libs.

    To create the OA library from LEF and GDS, use the following commands:

         lef2oa -lib testLib -lef lefFile -libPath ./testLib -DMSystem oaDMFileSys

         strm2oa -lib testLib -gds gdsFile -layerMap layer.map

    In EDI 10.1 and earlier versions specify the following in the config file to specify the OA library and views to load:

    set rda_Input(ui_oa_reflib) {testLib}
    set rda_Input(ui_oa_abstractname) {abstract}
    set rda_Input(ui_oa_layoutname) {layout}

    See this solution for more details:

     Thanks wally. It works fine. I have one doubt regarding this.   Whether the mos and its connections are present in standard cells while using oa_lib (testLib) as input?

    Can I streamout the final gds without using standard cell gds?

    streamOut will not include the standard cells unless you pass it the standard cell GDS files using the -merge option.

    Can you clarify what you mean by "mos connections"? The connectivity is based on the LEF. The 'layout' view is for viewing only in EDI.

    Thanks,

    Brian

     Thanks Brian.  Based on my knowledge gds contains mos and its connections. Lef only contains the metal connections and via informations. When I'm converting standard cells gds to oa library,  I'm getting the layout view. I'm trying to clear lvs using this layout view after routing,it shows some error like AND21(std cell) referenced but not defined. How can I clear it? If I'm wrong,correct me.

    Thanks

    Hi Selva,

    To create a GDS containing the design implemented in Encounter and layout of the standard cells you must either:

    1. run streamOut with the -merge option and specify the GDS files for the standard cells. This will merge the top level GDS from Encounter with the GDS of the standard cells which can then take to your LVS tool.

    2. OR using Virtuoso open the top level and re-master the standard cells to point to the layout instead of the Abstract view then export GDS. Re-mastering cannot be done in Encounter.

    Thanks Brian. I learnt lot from you. I'm interest to learn about Open Access. If you have any documentation related to Open Acess(OA), sent me.

     Thanks,

     Selva.

    The following blog has several references to help with migrating to OA. There are additional information in the manuals and other resources at http://support.cadence.com.
