trialRoute, error adjacent routing layers with same direction

 Hi there,

i am using Encounter 13.1 and a STM 28FDSOI kit. Floorplanning and prePlace of the design run smoothly but when I try a timeDesign, trialrout exits with the following error:

**ERROR: (ENCTR-7108):  Two adjacent routing layers M8 and M9 are in the same preferred direction.
trialRoute does not support this design style and will exit.

Where is this problem located ? Is it a LEF isssue, do I need to add another lef file?

 Kind regards

check your tech LEF (that's the one that defines all the routing layers, widths, spacings, etc.). There will be a direction for each layer. They usually alternate horizontal and vertical. Sounds like your M8 and M9 have the same direction. Change the one that seems out of whack.

     Hey Kary, thanks!

The upper layers (above M8) all had the same direction. Since this is a tech LEF provided by CMP I am wondering why one should do that ?!

    Best regards,

    Marten

you would have to ask the tech LEF vendor why they did that

Okay since there seems to be no obvious reason for this issue, we will contact the vendor.

     Thanks Kari!
