Extraction Tech File and LEF-Tech Map file for power grid libray

What are Extraction Tech File and LEF-Tech Map file used for generating power grid library in Encounter Power System? Can I generate these files manually? Can anybody please provide sample Extraction Tech File and LEF-Tech Map files?

Thanks in advance

the extraction tech file is not generated manually, you get it from the foundry. It is called "qrcTechFile" and there will be one for each extraction corner like cworst, cbest, typcal, etc.

the lef-tech map file is easy to create manually. you need to refer to your lef and the .ict file (the human-readable version of the qrcTechFile, which will also come from the foundry).

it should look something like this: (only a few layers in this example)

#2nd column is ict name, 4th column is lef name

    metal metal1 lefdef M1
    metal metal2 lefdef M2
    metal metal3 lefdef M3
    via VIA1 lefdef V1
    via VIA2 lefdef V2

The names between LEF/.ict may be different or the same, but you need this file either way.

In Encounter power system, I hope I can do a power analysis even before placement and routing with the initial netlist file. So I loaded the .lib, .v, .sdc and .lef files of the design. With this design, I am able to run a static power analysis. For dynamic power analysis, I am asked to load the power grid library. I created the power lib library as you suggested. But I am getting an error as shown below!!

eps 1> **ERROR: (ENCSYT-30124): LEF files must be specified or loaded before generating powerGrid library.

What could be the possible reason??

You can do an Early Rail Analysis before the design is finished, and that is a static analysis like you noticed. But dynamic needs the power grid views and a more complete design. (Doesn't have to be timing-closed, but should be placed, routed, and have a signoff extraction SPEF.) You say you already created the PGV libs, but the error above implies you are trying to do it now. Please review the EPS user guide chapter on creation power grid views.

    Hi Kari,

On the same lines of this post -I was wondering how to get the required information to create these led map file as well as gds map files.

    1) I can see the format of the lefdef map file as you mention but is there a way I can get encounter to create it?

    2) the gds layer map file - I don't have this in the pdk, will it be the same as the stremOut.map file which is created when I save the GDS file?

    thanks

    Divya

i think there was a way to capture the lef map created internally, but i don't recall the instructions. if you search COS you might find it. at least that one is easy to create with the lef and ict files. the stream map is not created when you save GDS. it is an input that you need to provide. if you don't have a stream map in your PDK then hopefully you have the design rule manual for the process. there is usually a section that has the mask layers and datatypes.

    Hi Kari,

I am not sure to pull up a thread which was 4 years ago. I apologize in the case of inconvenience. I am using innovus and 65nm. I would like to know if the process is the same. I am very confused in finding the qrcTechFile as I can't find qrcTechfile for each corner separately.

    Thanks in advance
