what are power file and power net pad file?

What is a Power file (.pti file), Power Net Pad File (.pp file) and how can I generate these files?

    if you mean the .ptiavg file, those are generated when you run report_power. They are binary files that contain the power consumption info for all the instances in the design, and they are used by rail analysis for IR drop, EM, etc.

    The .pp is the file that lists the voltage sources in xy format. You can create it by hand, or have it generated with autofetch. See the user guide for more details.

    Hi Kari, I am running powerEM using voltus. can you please differentiate between .pwr.rpt file created after report_power command and the vstorm power grid views generated (.cl). I read it through cadence support that .cl file contains RC parasitics, tap currents, geometries. Why do we need these views when we can use spef's for RC information, .ptiavg files for tap currents info, lef and def for geometries? Can you please explain what the tool does when the report_power and set_rail_analysis_mode commands are used? I am unable to relate the information I have with the runs I do.

    The .cl views are an input to power/rail analysis, and the pwr.rpt file is an output, showing the power consumption of all the instances in your design. For static power analysis, the .cl views are not required, but they are needed for rail analysis. The SPEF has the RC info of the nets in your design, but the .cl views model the cells/blocks/IP in your design. Both are needed to get the complete picture. I hope that helps.

    I am using set_rail_analysis_mode command. By default the EM violation limit is 90%. The tool is not reporting violations below 90%. Is there an option for set_rail_analysis_mode so that the results less than 90% will be dumped out.

    i'm not sure what you are looking for in terms of what is dumped out. when looking at EM violations, you should look for the "rj" section in the file called "results". Any data points above 1.0 (J/JMax) are violations. If you use the result browser when displaying power/rail results or plots, you can see the list from worst to best, including those below the violation limit.
