Using a specified minimum wire width

Hi everyone,

Is there any way to make Nanoroute use a minimum wire width? for example using of 0.15 instead of 0.1 um in MX. I tried NON DEFAULT RULE with the provided lef file from the foundry,  however seems it is not affecting all wires and even in one wire it just changes some segment's width based on space and room  availability and DRC violation.

Best Regards,

Medya

Nanoroute uses the min wire width defined in the tech lef. It sounds like you want to use something wider than minimum. While NONDEFAULT rules are used for this purpose, it's usually for a small subset of nets and not the whole design. Even then, it's a soft rule, unless you set it to be a hard rule. Setting it to a hard rule can result in DRC violations. I wouldn't recommend setting NDRs for the whole design either. I'm not sure what the end goal is here... what are you trying to do exactly?

    Hi Kari,

    Thanks for the reply,

Actually my design is not that large its a small digital controller (contains around 3K std cells) for a large mainly analog/rf circuit. So I've been asked to not use of minimum width as well as single cut vias in this design because of possible manufacturing issues(DFM). So is it possible to route the whole design with a non minimum value and How can I do that?

    Best Regards,

    Medya

Well, I suppose you could create an NDR of the width you want and with the double-cut vias you want, and make all the nets use the NDR. You'll just have to try it and see what happens. If Nanoroute ends up using min-width wire in places, then it's doing so to avoid a DRC, which you would want.
