Time in Simvision's Expression calculator

 Hi,

 I find Simvision's expression calculator very useful with digital signals and boolean operations. Is has many analog functions which I don't know how to use. Some of the analog functions are range functions. Like computing the average over a time period. If I enter constant numbers as time range - the result is a constant number. Is there a variable that indicates time?

     Hi Tzachi,

    you can enter scale specifiers and also real or integer numbers for the time intervals as follows:

    range_average(my.signal, 10ns, 15.5ns)

    range_average(my.signal, 10000ps, 15500ps)

    Does that answer your question? or am I offbase on what it is you are asking.

     I want to do something like

    range_average(my.signal, t-15ns, t+15ns)

    to get a `smoother` wave

     

    using: range_average(my.signal, 10 ns, 15.5ns) results with a constant number (the average at that time interval). I want the time interval to move or slide (like in "sliding window") so that I can see a wave (changing with time) related to my.signal

    I want to use Expression Calculator's analog functions like this:

     y(t) = analog_func( x(t) )

     so that the new signal's value (y) changes over time.

    Hi Tzachi

    Unfortunately, the capability you are requesting is not currently supported in the expression calculator.

    I suggest opening a service request to get it on the SimVision's team plate for implementation.

    As a workaround, it turns out that SimVision is a highly customizable and extensible tool.  I have written a SimVision extension script that plots an expression over a sliding window between the cursor and baseline in the Waveform window.

    It essentially automates what you would do by hand if you repeatedly created expressions for each sliding window and plotted the result.  The downside to this approach is that it has the potential to be quite slow if you run it against a large data set.

    I consider the script to be experimental at this point, but if you think it might be useful for you, even with the above limitation, please contact me and I will send you the script.

    Nine years later, simple analog analysis tools like this still don't exist in SimVision :(
