eVC development

Hi everybody,

I have some good years experience now with functional verification using 'e' language and I am planning on starting a small project based mostly on e Verification Components development. we are close to finishing first stage of verification for two eVCs.

Does enybody know if there are some legal requests when selling eVCs from the Cadence point of view as I belive Cadence have some patents on 'e'? or eVC marketing is independent from Cadence?

Thank you!

John

Hi John, The e language is an open, IEEE standard like VHDL, Verilog, SystemC, and SystemVerilog (FYI, there is a IEEE working group for the e language open to all -- here is their website for reference: www.ieee1647.org) As such, Cadence has no claims on the language. Furthermore, it is Cadence's policy to unconditionally donate to this IEEE working group any new e language constructs we on Team Specman dream up now and in the future. Regarding eVCs: it's true that Cadence sells IP that supports the e language, but there are also many other companies that sell e language IP as well. Many of these are in Cadence's "Verification Alliance" program: http://www.cadence.com/alliances/verificationalliance/members/pages/default.aspx and of course e users freely exchange thousands of lines of e IP between themselves, and with the e community in places like the shareware area of this site, as well as the venerable Specman Yahoo Group. Bottom-line: 1 - Enjoy writing, selling, and profiting from your eVCs! 2 - By all means don't hesitate to leverage the expertise of the e community, either via this forum, or some others listed here: http://www.cadence.com/Community/blogs/fv/archive/2008/12/10/new-blog-all-about-e-amp-specman.aspx?postID=13330 Cheers, Team Specman http://www.cadence.com/Community/posts/teamspecman.aspx
