Elaboration error using makelib

sitanshu
sitanshu over 15 years ago

Hi,

STEPS:

(1) I am trying to precompile libraries before simulation into different directories using the -makelib option.

 %irun -c -ovm -makelib /home/LIB -f list_of_files.v -endlib top_design.v -64bit

This step is okay.

 (2) Now I use reflib to access the precompiled libraries and compile/elaborate the design and the test bench, from a different folder(/home/test/test1)

%irun -c -64bit -ovm -sv -gcc_vers 3.2.3 -reflib /home/LIB -reflib /home/INCA_libs -f bench_files.v -v top_design.v

 Problem is in this step.

When I run this command I get elaboration error

Building instance overlay tables: ................... Done
Loading native compiled code:     .................... Done
        Building instance specific data structures.
ncelab: *F,INTERR: INTERNAL ERROR

  TOOL: ncelab(64)      08.10-s007

  MESSAGE: cuv_dv_pconnections - not expanded###

irun: *E,ELBERR: Error during elaboration (status 255), exiting.

Any insight into this would be really helpful.

This kind of error is not likely your fault. I would first try updating your software, version 8.1-s7 is *really* old, to see if it has already been fixed. If not, I think you'll need to report the problem to Cadence.

    Hi TAM1,

How do I figure out if it is old or not.

    Thanks,

    Sitanshu

If you have access to Cadence Online Support, it's easy. You simply need to see what versions of IUS or INCISIV are available on downloads.cadence.com.

If you don't have access to the web site, then I'm not sure what to do. You might be able to look at the date on the ncsim executable file from your installation.

    % ncsim -version
    TOOL:   ncsim   08.10-s017

    % ls -l $iushome/tools/bin/ncsim
    lrwxrwxrwx  1 tam1 user 17 Aug 11  2009 /usr1/ius8.1/tools/bin/ncsim -> ../inca/bin/ncsim*

So I figured if s017 was dated last August, your reported version s007 would be much older than that.

    Hi,

Is there no way I can figure out without updating the tool.

BTW what does s017 mean in this case.

    Thanks,

    Sitanshu

Well, you don't have update the tools to look at dates or timestamps. But you do have to have access to support.cadence.com or downloads.cadence.com to look up the latest version. The s017 means (roughly) that this software is the 17th hot-fix (or revision) to the base IUS 8.1 software release.

If you don't have access to downloads.cadence.com, you can look at the timestamp on your executable. Since the s007 hot-fix to IUS 8.1 was released sometime in 2008, there have been a lot of changes to the software in the past year and a half.

I have seen this particular error message in the past, and it was a bug in the Cadence software. But they fixed the earlier occurences of the problem. So I'd recommend that you try the latest software to see if those earlier fixes also addressed your problem.

     Hi Sitanshu,

You'll need to contact Cadence support if you want to find out what the issue is with this particular release and the flow you used. They will likely request that you update to the latest release in the IUS 8.1 stream, which is actually IUS 8.1s019, not s017.

The Incisive releases are roughly numbered by year and half (2nd half of 2009 was when the 9.2 release came out for example), followed by update numbers. The higher the number, the more recent the release. So s019 is more recent than s017, which in turn is more recent than s007. On http://downloads.cadence.com you can check out which releases are available and you can see an overview of things that got updated in each release.

    Cheers,

    Hilmar

    Hi TAM1 and Hilmar,

Thanks for clearing my doubt. It seems from your posts that I must try and update first and then carry on with my compilation. I would do that and post again if I face any problems.

     Thanks,

    Sitanshu
